The Words in the Wires

A fully professional production called 'The Words in the Wires', a new play by The Tideline Runners Theatre Company. I played the young lead, Julius Reuter, who after losing his child decides to leave Aachen, Germany to establish Reuter's News Agency by inventing the telegram. In the process leaving behind his best friend and work partner, Joe Stargardt.

Based on the fascinating true story of real-life historical figure Julius Reuter, the man who “made the world a little bit smaller”, it recounts the tale of the humble beginnings of what is now a global institution. It also tells the story of a most incredible friendship, one based as much upon courage as it is love and trust.

Set in Victorian London against the backdrop of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination, Julius must fight to keep his good name as he recounts his rise to success and what it has cost him.

People say that “Friendship is the murderer of every great ambition, and ambition is the murderer of every great friendship”. This is the story of three people who refused to believe that.

The cast featured many of Berwick’s most talented young local actors with support from The Tideline Runners’ regulars. The Word in the Wires is sure to delight with its mix of warm humour, live music and iuse of mixed media.
